The Open-Air Museum is situated in beautiful surroundings
alongside Maribo Lake in proximity to Bangs Have.
The Open-Air Museum was built up in the 1920s and 30s and gives an
impression of Lolland-Falster's farming community's culture and
building techniques in the decades around 1800.
The museum consists of 10 houses, a farm, a post mill and a school
containing an exhibition of the history of village schools.
A shop at the entrance to the museum sells books, postcards, sundry
museum replicas as well as coffee, etc. Furthermore, there are
gardens planted with medicinal herbs, vegetables and roses. The
museum houses a 10 ton steam locomotive that was used for ploughing
from 1872 until 1929.
The most recent building in the museum is a farm labourer's cottage
from Godsted from the year 1872.
Furbishing of the cottage was started in 2007 so that in the future
visitors will be able to experience a farm labourer's home from the
World War I era.
A barn from the farm Gl. Skovnæs stands opposite The Open-Air
Museum. This is from the 1860s and is a fine example of a large farm
estate's warehouse during the height of prosperity for corn sales.
The barn is now used for museum purposes.
