The Old Grocer's Shop

In the year 1995 "The Old Grocer's Shop", which is situated in the street Langgade 9 in Nykøbing Falster, was opened by the institution called Falsters Minder. Langgade 9 was built in the year 1810 in the classic style, and was restored in 1995.

The grocer's shop is a living museum built up around the authentic furniture and stock of goods found in a grocer's shop on Lolland called Skottemarke Købmandshandel. This shop was closed in 1987.

An epoch had come to an end and the last owner, "Lasse", Skaaning Larsen wished for the shop to emerge again as a museum for a grocer's shop.

In "The Old Grocer's Shop" you will experience the scent of freshly ground coffee from the spinning coffee mill, salt herrings and dried cod in barrels, brown soap in bulk, original carpet slippers and rush shoes besides many other things that typically belonged to Skottemarke Grocer's Shop during the 1950's.

At that time, when the goods were meticulously displayed on shelves behind the counter, when goods were sold according to the amount required by the customer, when goods were presented by the friendly and practised shop assistant, the goods, with all their spiced scents, really contributed to the atmosphere of the shop. Also today, the shop assistant, on request, will wrap up the goods in paper, and even provide a small stick to put through the loops in the string for easy carrying!
